  1. Sounds like you have an Awesome plan! I believe that when a student has a mentor it automatically helps their confidence which in turn helps their test scores. If all goes well according to your plan you will have great results!

  2. Your plan looks great! What items were you thinking of including on the survey? I was wondering if it is questions about home, or how they feel about school...just curious!

  3. Your plan looks very well planned and thought out. Are your surveys going to be anonymous? I will not have the teachers identify themselves. I think I will get more feedback if they do not have to identify themselves.

You asked about the GCS title in my plan. It stands for Grand Central Station. That is the program that is in charge of the "zero recovery" type program at our campus

  4. I plan on sending out surveys to the entire student population. I need to talk to this with my supervisor, but wanted to 'color code' the surveys - so they were anonymous - but I would know what grade level they were from and would also be able to tell my specific target group. Is this allowable? Like I said, something we need to talk about further. I want to include questions about family income, amount of time spent reading at home, number of siblings, etc. I want to ask personal questions, without being too personal. It is going to take some time to ask the questions I want without offending anyone. As far as the teachers, I am going to utilize Survey Monkey and send the link to them. Thought about doing this with the parents too, but I wouldn't be able to know who the surveys were coming in from. Suggestions?

  5. Looks like you have a well planned out action research. I do have one question but its off topic, how did you get your chart insterted into the blog, when I tried it on my blog it messed everthing up and it looked like a big mess. Sorry, just wondering.

  6. Amy, after reading your action plan, I can tell you are serious about finding the answer to your question. Your findings will be a great benefit to your district. They may put you in charge of more research!

  7. This past summer, GISD provided an 8 hour professional development on African American students. You may want to ask your principal who was in charge of that seminar. If they do not know, you can ask them who is in charge of staff development for GISD.

  8. Amy, this plan is excellent! Your interest in details and revision will pay off, and will make your overall results more relevant. As Angela wrote above, I can sense your overall seriousness and excitment about this research. Wonderful work, and I look forward to reading more!

    Great job!
